Fremont County Citizen Science Project – Community Participation Instructions
π― What Youβre Doing
You are helping document real plants, animals, and fungi in Fremont County.
Using the iNaturalist app, your observations will become part of a public, scientific dataset used to better understand local biodiversity.
π Project Timing
The Spring 2026 student pilot has been completed, but the project is now open for ongoing community participation.
Observations can be submitted year-round unless otherwise noted.
β οΈ Important (Read This First)
You must join the project for your observations to count.
If you upload observations but do NOT join the project, your work will not be included.
π± Step 1 β Download the App
Download iNaturalist:
π€ Step 2 β Create an Account
-
Open the app
-
Sign up (email or Google works fine)
-
Choose a username you can remember
π Step 3 β Join the Project
Go to the project page:
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/fremont-county-citizen-science-project
-
Click Join
-
Make sure you are logged in
πΈ Step 4 β Make Observations
Go outside and find something interesting:
- Plants
- Insects
- Birds
- Fungi
- Any wild organism
Then:
- Take a clear photo
- Upload it in the app
- Add what you think it is (optional)
- Make sure the location is turned ON
β Step 5 β Double Check
Before submitting:
- You joined the project β
- Your photo is clear β
- Location is correct β
πΏ Tips for Better Observations
- Get close, but stay safe
- Take multiple photos if possible
- Focus on one organism at a time
- Try different angles
- Avoid blurry shots
- Make sure location is on
π« What NOT to Upload
- Pets (dogs, cats, etc.)
- People
- Random objects
- Screenshots
π― What Counts as Success
You are helping create:
- A growing dataset of Fremont County biodiversity
- Observations that scientists and the public can use
- A long-term record of the natural world around us
- A stronger connection between community, science, and stewardship
π Why This Matters
Fremont Countyβs landscapes are rich and diverse, but many species and ecosystems remain under-documented.
Community participation helps build a better understanding of local biodiversity while encouraging observation, curiosity, and stewardship of the land.
π± Looking Ahead
Following a successful Spring 2026 student pilot, Adventure Acres Foundation hopes to expand participation into additional classrooms, schools, and potentially neighboring communities during the 2026β2027 school year and beyond.
